Three Things that Change Siddhartha's Life.
Siddhartha is a novel written by Hermann Hesse is a story about discovery. The story takes place a very long time ago. The time is not specified but one can tell it takes place more then five thousand years ago. Siddhartha is a one of a kind character who goes on a journey. During Siddhartha's journey, he comes across a decision, a experience and a person that change his life forever.
Siddhartha's experience that changes his life is leaving his family and becoming a Samana. When all the Self was conquered and dead, when all passions and desires were silent, then the last must awaken, the innermost of Being that is no longer Self - the great secret (14) Siddhartha continually searched for any kind of knowledge. This is shown by Siddhartha's leaving home to join the Samanas. Leaving his home shows that Siddhartha will do any thing to get what he wants. Siddhartha did not leave his father's chambers until he had gotten his way, until his father had submitted to Siddhartha's wishes and agreed to let him leave home to join the Samanas (10-12). Because Siddhartha is stubborn he can do wait out any one or any thing, it teaches him to do with out which helps him through the Seamana experience. "Siddhartha learned a great deal from the Samanas he learned many ways of losing the Self" (15). Siddhartha learned little from the Seamanas. Siddhartha learned that " . . . a temporary palliative against the pain and folly of life" (17). This expereince makes him leave the Samanas and go search for something else. This experience shows that when Siddhartha learns all he can from something he just moves on to a new place to learn new things, with one goal, to find himself.
