"More children die of SIDS in a year than all of the children who die of cancer, heart diseases, pneumonia, child abuse, AIDs, cystic fibrosis, and muscular dystrophy combined."(SIDS Alliance). SIDS stands for, Sudden Infant Death Syndromes. It is medical disorder that claims the lives of nearly 3,000 babies one-week or year of age in the U.S. each year. This is also known as the crib death. SIDS affect families from any race, religion and income levels. SIDS occurs during the babies sleep in which strikes without warning. There is no prevention on SIDS. SIDS occurs unexpectedly usually at home. This has no specific symptoms, SIDS occurs in best of families, too most capable, careful and loving parents. No one can tell ahead of time whether a baby will die of SIDS and no one can stop it from happening. Some reports imply that the cause has been discovered, but they"re wrong. It is important to restate that SIDS continues to be an unsolved problem. (SIDS Alliance).
SIDS is considered to be an almost instant event. There may be some movement during the last few seconds of life. Babies do not cry out and often show no sign of having been disturbed in their sleep. Parents who have witnessed their baby's death have reported that they appeared to die very peacefully in their sleep and appeared simply to stop breathing. (SIDS Alliance).
It is still not known exactly how or why SIDS happens. Researchers are making progress in identifying deficits, behaviors that might lead an infant to a risk. It appears that SIDS may be caused by some subtle development delay that anatomical defect or functional failure. SIDS may eventually have more than one explanation and more than one meaning.
