There are many factors that people have to think about when buying a new pet. One of the things people have to consider is training the new animal to do basic things such as sit, lay down or more advanced things like doing tricks. Training pets to do tricks or disciplining them takes some time and patience. In my house we recently got two new additions to the family: Daisy and Daytona are our golden retriever puppies. My brother and I were given the job to teach them to do tricks. The first thing that we taught the pups to do was simply to sit. It took about two days to get them to do it with ease.
We taught them to sit by doing the process for them. We would have to push down on their backs while saying sit, and then give them a treat right away. It is extremely important to give a treat immediately following the trick. The dogs will begin to understand that if they do the deed they will get a reward. After a few tries of that, they did it good. Next, we taught them to lie down. What we did was make them sit, now that they learned that, then put a treat by their nose and slowly begin bringing the treat to the floor. This step taught them very easily because they followed the treat all the way to the ground. One important thing to remember is that a dog will forget something they did within 2-3 minutes after; therefore, that is another reason it is important to praise right after a trick is done. Now they are learning to give paw and speak. Teaching your dog to give their paw to you is similar to sitting. You have to do it for them. Pull their paw up with yo!.
ur hand, give them a treat and they will eventually understand the cycle. .
Speaking is fairly easy for them to learn also. Just hold the treat in front of the nose of your pet and they should bark, because they want the treat. Sometimes verbally saying the word Speak, will help too. When a dog hears their masters voice it gets them excited and some will bark because of this.
