He would call them up and tell them that he had met a girl and needed money to help impress her. He of course hadn't but it worked for a while. In reality he did have his eye on one particular girl. John had recently seen the movie Taxi Driver, with Jodie Foster and Robert DeNiro, and was very much infatuated with Jodie. In the movie she played a child prostitute and DeNiro played an angry, lonely man who tries to kill a political candidate and rescues Jodie from her pimps. He tried many times to contact her by both phone calls and letters and did actually talk to her a couple !.
             of times. At this time he was living in California pursuing his dream of a music career after his idol, John Lennon. .
             When Jodie moved to New Haven to attend college at Yale University John moved there also just to be close to her. All of his trips he made up stories about what he was doing and his parents supported him financially just to keep him out of the house. John stalked Jodie and left numerous notes at her dorm room until during one of his phone calls she told him to quit calling and leaving notes. John was devastated and very depressed not only because of this but also his idol and hero John Lennon had also died. On October 9, 1980 John had full intentions on shooting President Carter at a Nashville airport, but was caught by security with three .22 caliber pistols in his suitcase. He was arrested and his father bailed him out at his mother's request. Nothing ever came of that situation, but it did stall him in his attempt to assassinate the president. With the upcoming election John decided to wait until afterwards to make sure he didn't kill a president who was going to be defeated in the election. .
             John moved back home but it didn't take long for his father to put a time limit on it. Jack originally said that John was to be out by the end of March, but heated arguments forced Jack's hand and he kicked him out three weeks early.
