They'll all tell you they're in favor of equal rights for homosexuals. They'll all say, yes, gays should have the same rights in housing, jobs, public accommodations, and should have equal access to government benefits, equal protection of the law, and so on. Then you get to gay marriage. And that's when all this talk of equality stops dead cold. A magazine called Opposing View Points mentions that nearly three people in four in the U.S. oppose gay marriage, almost the same proportion as are otherwise supportive of gay rights. This means that many of the same people, who are even passionately in favor of gay rights, oppose gays on this one issue. It's because there is a lot of misunderstanding about what homosexuality really is, the inaccurate assumption that gay people enjoy the same civil rights protections as everyone else. There are also a lot of stereotypes about gay relationships, and even a great deal of misunders!.
tanding of what marriage itself is all about. Same sex couples should be able to marry and raise children with the same privileges as heterosexual couples because homosexuals are citizens as much as anyone else and should not be discriminated against due to their sexuality; religious institutions have no right to ban homosexuality and its practice; furthermore, gays and lesbians possess morals and self control. .
Homosexual couples should be able to marry and raise children because homosexuals are citizens as much as anyone else and should not be discriminated against due to their sexuality. A book called Opposing View Points mentions that government officials suggest that allowing same sex marriage would destroy the American family system, and that it would trigger polygamy and other unconventional practices(Johnson 59). If this argument were true, wouldn't that have already happened in countries where forms of legalized gay marriage already exist? Wouldn't they have 'slid' towards legalized incest and bestial marriage? The reality is that a form of gay marriage has been legal in Scandinavian countries for many years, and no such legalization of incest or polygamy has happened, nor has there been a struggle for it.
