"Why do gun owners oppose registration?" In reading this article by Jim Bianchi and "Criminals use loopholes to get guns," by Mike Dorning. I believe that the government is wasting time and money trying to take the guns of the citizens of the United States of America.
The article "Why do gun owners oppose registration," explains that if people were to register their guns. The next step would be the confiscation of their guns. The second article I read would agree with this one for the reason that if someone wanted to get a gun to commit a crime, they could do so relatively easy. The article "Criminals use loopholes to get guns," explains how a criminal could get a person with a clean record to purchase the gun for them for fifty or one hundred dollars. And As far as removing guns from the citizens, this would leave us virtually defenseless against the criminals that have the guns that other people have purchase for them. As stated in one of the articles, the police chief says that they simply can not be everywhere at once in order to prevent criminal activity. They say this and then they try to take what little bit of protection that we have away from us. .
As far as registering guns, one article suggests that guns should be registered at the local police department. This would create a couple of problems. One being that a felon would not come to the police department to register a gun that he was going to commit a crime with and also it would be violating his fifth amendment right. The right against self-incrimination. This just simply would not work because the only people that would register guns would be the law-abiding citizens. "To sum it up, the only people who will register their firearms will be the law-abiding citizens who, by definition, will not become involved in criminal activity while the felons, being lawbreakers already, simply won't bother." (Mike Dorning) .
Then again there is always the money issue.
