             Charlie has changed over the novel a lot. In the beginning of the book Charlie is not smart at all and does not know how to do much stuff, like write or read. Charlie has to go through a series of inkblot test which confuse him even more because he feel that he is not seeing something that he should. Charlie also has to go against him in a maze and seems to always lose, which makes him angry at first but he realizes he is still learning. The good thing is that he is still happy here. Near the middle of the book he has had the surgery done and Charlie is at first disappointed because he didn't see any immediate results. Charlie starts seeing some results and he gets to a point where he is quite intelligent. He has learned a lot thanks to the surgery, including other languages. Charlie is still happy here. Near the end of the book Charlie is realizing that he is not so happy because he has realized that people were making fun of him and that it hurt his feelings. Charlie's intelligence also wears off after a while. He started noticing things going wrong, like he forgot the many languages he had learned and began having trouble even with English . Of all the things he forgot he did remember one thing, to put flowers on Algernon's grave. Charlie gets sad at he end and does not wan to talk to anyone.

             Gimpy has not changed much over the book mostly at the end. In the beginning Gimpy is mean and cruel to Charlie and hates him. He always plays tricks on him just to make him look stupid in front of other people. He tells Charlie that he can't do anything and that he is stupid. Near the middle of the book Charlie catches Gimpy steeling and Gimpy is mean about the deal. He starts a petition ti fire Charlie. There for Charlie lost his job and Gimpy got to keep his. It all changes at the end of the book Gimpy starts to realize that Charlie is a good guy and starts to be his friend. He even said that if someone was to mess with Charlie that they would have to deal with him first.
