Do you find yourself constantly preoccupied with too many things to do so you end up with many unfinished projects? Creative Time Management by J.L. Barkas is a very beneficial book when it comes to learning how to manage your time more efficiently so that one can still enjoy the more pleasurable things in life. Creative Time Management shows how to manage personal and work time, the obstacles to effective time management, how to become organized and more effective, how to improve your time at work, how to save time on household chores, how to improve your personal time management, and how time management works. .
The first chapter shows how to manage your personal and work time. Barkas uses the "ABC Approach" to show how to manage your time effectively. "A" is knowing what you've got which means knowing what your current work and personal responsibilities are. "B" is knowing what you want which means having specific daily and long-term goals. "C" is using "A" and "B" so you get what you want which means that you apply the questions of who, what, where, when, why, and how to your thoughts and actions. Another way to manage you personal and work time is to set goals. If you don't know what goals you need to accomplish then how can you accomplish them? Barkas believes everyone must have a "grand scheme" or a "master plan" that he or she must try to achieve at all times. Something that anyone can do that is beneficial to effective time management is to make a daily time log. On the time log you should list everything you do in that specific day and how long it took you to do it. Once you have finished go back and circle the things that were absolutely necessary for you to accomplish. Next go back with a different colored pencil and circle the things that you wanted to do. Now analyze how long it took you to do the necessary things and how much time it took you to do the things that you wanted to do.
