A Poem About Revenge: "A Poison Tree"

Revenge becomes the only thing on this man's mind, and his friend is transformed into a foe. Blake, poet of a "A Poison Tree" states, "And I watered it in fears, Night and morning with my tears:," (Blake 674). These two statements show that the man is truly out for revenge because he waters the tree day and night not with typical water, but with his own tears. Blake also states, "And I sunned it with smiles, And with soft deceitful wiles," (Blake 674). What these two statements mean is that, though the tree is given light, the light is not typical light but rather light from his thoughts and the joy that he feels to know his revenge continues to grow and to take shape.
