Atticus Finch is a realistic hero. He displayed his physical courage by shooting Tim Johnson, the rabid dog as it wandered on the streets. He also showed the amount of moral courage by defending Tom Robinson, a black man who accused by Bob Ewell of raping and beating his daughter Mayella. He was the only white man in the town that stood up for Tom Robinson. Atticus was a man who fights for what he believed in, even though he knew he was defending a man who already found guilty by the townspeople. He didn't just go with the popular opinion that blacks were bad. He stood up defense for Tom Robinson, because he knew that Tom was innocent. But in that time, blacks were strongly impacted from racism. Atticus was a strong man for doing such a thing, but he was not superior to other men and to the environment. He is still not strong enough to overcome the environment. He knew that he has no chance to win the case anyways. But as least he tried, he did everything he can at that time. He stands out as a realistic hero in a world that desperately needs heroes.
Odysseus is an epic hero. He took twenty years to return to his home Ithaca from the Troy War. One of the things that make Odysseus an epic hero is that he contains the great courage, in both physical and moral. It's evident when he defies the sea god Poseidon, telling him that he is unstoppable. Then he gets back on his ship starts to sail on Poseidon's water back to Ithaca. When Circe turned his men into animals, he climbed straight up a mountain, risking his life just to save his men. Another thing that show he is an epic hero is that he goes through the tests and trials to prove his ability.
