Legally when teen-agers turn eighteen, they are classified as adults. Their parent sends them off to "conquer" the world. They are able to enter the military and be drafted, go to college, get a job and are able to support a marriage if needed to, along with children. In addition to paying taxes and having the right to vote, they are set free and the rest of their life is in their hands. Now alcohol may mess many young adults life's up. Even though they are legally allowed to do all these new things, alcohol is still not one of them. So basically they are allowed to have families and defend our country but not have a drink. Many young adults do drink illegally and more than half of the them result in bad outcomes. Alcohol is one of the most deadly drugs obtainable and biggest drug problems that face young people today.
Even though alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs out there today, which cause possibly the most life threatening problems, young adults still do it. There are many reasons why a young adult under the legal drinking age, 21, will pick up a drink. This problem with alcohol occurs all over the country in schools, families, and colleges. The first, and probably the strongest, reason why young adults drink are social and/or peer pressure. Many times when they are out with their friend whether at and party or club, some of them may feel pressures to drink just because everyone else is. Many like it because when they do drink there are more friendly and outgoing. If they don't accept the drink, others may put them down as not cool. They make them feel that they have to drink in order to fit in with everyone else around them. A fifteen-year-old teen, who started drinking to be accepted, named Jennifer said, "I had heard that teens could be alcoholics. But never realized until it was my own life, until it was pointed out to me and Teenagers are just as big alcoholics as anybody else.
