            Epics are written to fulfill one's inner-hunger to finally know the ending. The reader needs to mentally be satisfied with how the story ends, as well as the need to have emotional closure to the story. The reader will read the story, live and breathe the story, put their self in the beloved main character's position and then it ends, so that they feel as if they"re hanging on the edge waiting for more. A synonym for the word epic is marathon. An epic is written to adhere to the first book and then the books together create a twisting, emotional marathon that intentionally hook the reader in and cunningly intertwine those 6 appealing characteristics of an epic. The epic needs to be written carefully and creatively to comply with the reader's thirst for a satisfying plot and ending.

             In the Odyssey of Homer, there are many substantial situations that prove that there is a simple 6 characteristic outline of an epic. To begin with, you must have a heroic-figure. This person embodies all moral values and mental stability. This is the person that the reader relies on and has complete trust in. Action walks hand-in-hand with the hero. You must have lots of action in order to keep the reader interested. In this type of epic, it is likely to be bloody, violent conflict, and as we all know, conflict is a key part of a story's plot, even more so in an epic. Odysseus is the complete definition of a heroic leader because of the following traits: strength, courage, intellect and a thirst for victory. His bravery causes him to partake in many battles, and find his way out of them. He used his cunning intellect to kill Polyphemus, and he also resisted the Siren's songs, among many more on his adventures. .

             The setting also should change frequently, almost harmonized with the chapters. This gives the reader a freshening of the mind to begin in a different area, and to visualize the new surrounding.
