World Hunger

World hunger is an issue that most people don't think about, but I want to encourage everyone to be more aware. Hunger is prevalent and devastating, and it affects millions of people in the United States and around the world. This issue seems to be huge, but if everyone would come together we can make a difference.
Can you believe that more than 840 million people around the world are undernourished? Not only that, but 31,000 Children die everyday from hunger related causes. This sounds like a hard issue to tackle, but it isn't! With just six cents a day we can cut hunger in half in our own country with in five years, and with in 15 years world wide!!.
Violence is an issue that is resorted to when people are undernourished, and this is where my platform, "Food Does More Than Feed" comes in. Of course food satisfies hunger, but that isn't the only thing food does. Food nourishes the mind to make good decisions throughout the day. People who are undernourished are more likely to steal food or perhaps hurt someone to survive. Food also gives nourishment needed to learn and work to full potential. But, the real issue here is letting "the hungry" know that someone truly does care about them. This act of love gives them hope, and a reason not to resort to crime.
At this point in my life I am trying to make my peers more involved in fighting world hunger. I have just recently organized a charity concert, along with help from my peers, and we"re sending the proceeds to The Children's Hunger Relief Fund. I want to make sure that everyone that participates in this knows what it is for and that they should be proud of themselves for helping fight hunger. Along with that, I also volunteer at a local food pantry. I find great satisfaction from being involved in helping others in this way, and someday in my life I would like to start my own organization that will help feed people around the world as well in our own country.
