People that have different backgrounds to the airbags with either oppose the air bag, or will advocate it. Airbags have been developed so that the driver and the passenger will be protected in case an accident in which either person could be injured due to contact with either the steering wheel, the dashboard or anything else that could cause severe bodily harm. The advocates of the airbag believe that the people that are riding in the front two seats are better off with the airbags in place and activated. They believe that the airbags have been instated for a reason, being to protect the occupants of the car in case of an accident. Since 1990, thirteen years that the airbags have been installed in cars approx. two hundred and thirty four people have been killed due to the airbag, but in most of these cases, the deaths have been caused by improper use of restraints, not using the restraints at all, or children under the age of twelve being in the passenger seat. Notice that the reasons why the airbags have killed the occupants of the vehicle are because of human error, negligence and neglecting the proper use of safety restraints in the cars. The National Highway Safety Commission says that over thirteen thousand three hundred lives are saved by the airbag in conjunction to the proper use of seat belts. This is because when a car is in an accident, the occupants are going the same rate as the car was, when the car is forced to come to a complete stop in a fraction of a second their bodies are still in motion, the airbags prevent the occupants from coming to a stop on the steering wheel or dashboard, but on a more comfortable medium being the airbag.
