He or she will be apprehensive and suspicious around people. .
             The second stage is the anal-muscular stage of early childhood, from about eighteen months to three or four years old. The task is to achieve a degree of autonomy while minimizing shame and doubt. .
             If mom and dad permit the child to explore and manipulate his or her environment, the child will develop a sense of autonomy or independence. If the parents come down hard on any attempt to explore and be independent, the child will soon give up with the assumption that he or she cannot and should not act on their own.
             Stage three is the genital-locomotor stage or play age. From three to six, the task confronting every child is to learn initiative without too much guilt. Initiative means a positive response to the world's challenges, taking on responsibilities, learning new skills, feeling purposeful.
             Stage four is the latency stage, or the school-age child from about six to twelve. The task is to develop a capacity for industry while avoiding an excessive sense of inferiority. Children must tame the imagination and dedicate themselves to education and to learning the social skills their society requires of them. .
             Stage four is where I will argue Michael Jackson presently resides. I hope to display this by looking at his childhood experiences onward, but before I do I would like to offer some background information on the King of Pop.
             Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. Jackson has spent almost his entire life as a public performer. He was a founding member of the Jackson five at the age of four, and soon became the lead vocalist of the group. The Jackson five (the group later became known as the Jacksons) was very successful and spawned such hits as "ABC" and "I"ll Be There". .
             Michael Jackson later went on to have an unprecedented solo career. His solo album Off The Wall topped the charts, and contained two number 1 singles, "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" (for which Jackson won a Grammy Award) and "Rock with You".
