The words in her songs promoted sex and were not a good example for her fans which were young girls going through puberty. Parents were upset at Madonna because they did not want their children to be dressing or acting like Madonna.( Faith 140) With her style of clothing Madonna was just being herself and a style was created. She didn't know at the time, but she was becoming a role model whether she liked it or not.
One girl Madonna did get through to was Britney Spears. (Marron, pg 38) Spear's is a pop music idol to many young girls like Madonna. Spears early in career said she wanted to be a role model. (Marron, pg, 77) Her books can be found in the children's section at local bookstores and libraries. Spear's right now is getting a lot of criticism from parents for the way she dresses her clothing reveals too much of her stomach, but is also a style that many females wear in this country. Spear's also was accused of snorting cocaine at a nightclub. (Binelli) Spear's has a responsibility to her fans because her books are in the children section. If she wants to be a role model she has to not revealing clothing that little children are going to see.
Spear's early in her career made a clean image for herself, but as the years gone by is making mistakes to ruin her image. Spear's image makes her look perfect to her fans, but in reality is she really perfect? Is it fair to judge Spears because she is not perfect? Spear's may not be perfect but has to remember to be responsible for her actions. She has to set a good example because a lot of little kids look up to her.
Many children also look up to Kobe Bryant. Bryant had a clean image like Spear's, but is watching his image go down because of his case. Bryant was accused of raping a 19 year old girl in Colorado. His image made him look like the perfect human being: never done drugs, hard worker, and a good family man. It was too good to be true, and many fans felt cheated because to many people Bryant was perfect.
