The Power of One

Moral values are hard to find in a prejudicial country like South Africa. The historical movie "The Power of One" directed by John G. Avildsen, tells the harsh life style of a British boy, growing up around racism and prejudice. P.K. did not get permission from Maria's father to date her, though he took a risk and did. .
Having same moral values as Maria should be a part of life. Though her father was the head of the apartheid, she disobeys him to open her eyes to a new world completely different than hers. Maria and I both feel there should not be any racism in South Africa. African or Asian or even White's should have the same rights at all times. There shouldn't be any exceptions for racial differences. Also, I would also, give up a prom to have a chance to change someone's life. So, in a lot of ways we do have the same moral values and concepts. While watching the movie, Maria appealed to me because of her innocence of not knowing the 'real world' outside of her walls.
Maria was too innocent for her own good. Her father has done a good job of protecting her from the world around her, before P.K. started to date her. Not many young women put in Maria's shoes, could overcome her fears of Africans, especially if it is in her blood. P.K. has a mixed back round which helps Maria to disagree with racism and prejudice. Maria put her own life down for P.K. which he does not take for granted. I admire this deed. These are the type of actions that appealed to me. But, what she did in some scenes I would've done a little different. .
If I were Maria I would act a little different. When Maria and her father were fighting, I did not think it was appropriate to yell back at him. She needed to make a point, but did not need to scream. Maria in this movie was a nice smart compassionate person. She had a great life but unfortunately Botha killed her. P.K. will have to find romance elsewhere. I would do things differently because I am a different person, but she was a major character.
