There are dozens of cheerleading organizations, including the National Cheerleading Association. There are competitions held on the high school and college level. Cheerleading competitions have a wide following and there is almost always a huge crowd of fans at every competition. The major competitions between high school squads and college squads are sometimes televised on cable sports channels. There are tons of other sports that never get air time on television, so for cheerleading to be seen on sports channels such as ESPN has shown just how institutionalized it has become.              In order for an activity to be defined as a sport, it must also require physical skill. Cheerleading at the competitive level requires maximum fitness. Flexibility is a must, along with dancing skills, coordination, and gymnastic ability. The athletes must have strength to hold one another up when towering and also must have the strength and balance to be held up. Also, because the routines performed are quite lengthy, the athletes must also be in good cardiovascular condition in order to dance and cheer as they do without fatiguing. Cheerleading requires a lot pf physical skill, therefore it meets the third characteristic of a sport according to Suits.
             To an extent, the outcome of the cheerleading competitions depends on the physical skill of the squad. This is Suits" last characteristic of a sport. The team that can perform the most complex and entertaining routine is most likely to win. If one team is more physically fit than another team or can perform more complex stunts and dance moves, their performance will be scored higher, and will most likely win the competition. The outcome of the competition has to do with how well the cheering squad can perform. According to Suits, cheerleading passes the fourth and final characteristic of a sport.
