Plastic Surgery

Living in a society where practically everyone is judged by image, it's easy to see why so many people are turning to plastic surgery. For years, we have altered our appearance through various forms of cosmetic plastic surgery. Girls want to have the body like Britney Spears and the guys want the body of Brad Pitt because in the eyes of the general public, to be "beautiful" is to be fashionable, popular, and rich. Remarkably, plastic surgery has been the solution for many people to change their image for numerous different reasons. .
There are many types of surgery, and one of them is plastic surgery. According to the Webster's Dictionary, plastic surgery is the "branch of surgery, dealing with the remodeling of any portion of the human body that has been damaged or deformed." However, this is not the reason for a person to transform his/her look. Most of us don't like some aspect of our appearance, whether it's sagging eyes or excess weight in particular areas, to name a few complaints. Lately a record number of Americans are doing something about it by having plastic surgery. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, nearly 8.5 million people in America had some form of cosmetic surgery during 2001.
Plastic surgery has given people the opportunity to change their entire appearance, and has taken the word "makeover" to a whole new height. It seems that in contemporary society, the picture of beauty is a thin super model posted on billboards all around the world. Children are brought up playing with extremely thin Barbie dolls. The media has been an important part in this situation by showing completely perfect women as actors, singers, musicians, even news anchors. This, unfortunately, can bring about eating disorders, and to young adults who are obsessed with plastic surgery, it has become an addiction. .
Most cosmetic surgery is extremely safe in the hands of surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
