Their official name is the French Republic where the native language is French. The capital is Paris. The government type of France is republic. The constitution was created in September 28, 1958. (U.S. Department of State) "Government of the people, by the people and for the people." This quote is set forth in the fifth line of article 2 of the Constitution and directly borrowed from Lincoln.
             The relationship between the United States and France began during America's search for independence from Great Britain in 1776. As a result, French soldiers fought alongside the American colonist. Paris is the site for peace negotiations between the United States and Great Britain at the end of the war. In 1865, France developed the idea of creating a giant statue to honor the friendship and the pledge of liberty between France and the United States. The Statue was dedicated to America on October 28, 1886. The French and the United States foreign relations are very lively. Both France and the United States share the same government type and also share similar values. There are frequent visits between the two countries as well. Any differences on views from the two are discussed openly and both nations have agreed not to ruin their relationship. (U.S. Department of State) .
             In June of 2001 France and the United States differed on their views of a missile shield. France is unsure whether the threat caused by so-called "rogue states" like North Korea and Iran is awful enough to deserve the possible deployment of a hot US anti-missile shield. There has always been disagreement between the U.S. and its European allies as to the nature and timing of potential Ballistic Missile Defense deployment and worries about relations with France concerning "the future of arms control", "arms race implications," and "the politics of consultation. Many efforts have been made been made possible through the military tests, which ended with mixed results.
