Informative Essay

Scientists looked at a geographical cluster map in August 2003 to see where the highest density of illnesses was. They were shocked to find that there was no pattern of how the disease spread, which made containing the disease extremely difficult to do. One item that was suggested in the early days of the disease was a mandatory 10 day quarantine for Eastern Canada and United States. However, leaders of both sides of the border quickly rejected the idea, due to the fact that it wouldn't be practical to shut down virtually all of North America for 10 days. One of the hardest hit areas of Droopitis was Toronto, which was in the midst of another SARS outbreak at the time. In late August 2003, the disease had spread rapidly across all parts of Canada and the U.S. Unfortunately, much of North America was experiencing a cooler than normal summer, which ignited the disease further. Scientists were puzzled about why exactly Droopitis was able to strengthen in the cold air. What makes it worse is the fact that fall and winter are approaching, and it is feared that Droopitis will only strengthen further. As the months and weeks progress, it is expected that further details will be released on the disease. .
The symptoms of Droopitis vary greatly, depending on the degree at which the individual is affected. Droopitis is generally divided into 4 stages, with 1 being the lowest and 4 the highest. Stage I is generally minor in symptoms and may include a headache, slight fever and vomiting. One symptom that distinguishes this disease from any other is the fact that those affected with stage I Droopitis become extremely drowsy, and can sleep for 20-30 hour periods. Persons affected with stage II Droopitis will generally feel the same symptoms as stage I Droopitis, but at a much more serious level. But one distinction between stage I and stage II is the fact that at stage II, sufferers will feel an extreme sense of weakness in their overall body.
