Other services involving transport include food services, nursing care and domestic assistance. These things involve distributing medication, bringing clients food, helping around the house and transporting clients. The assistance provided by these support groups is vital because if the mentally ill do not get access to the everyday things people in the community get, then they will not be able to actively be a part of the community.
Now that the mental health system has become de-institutionalised it is important for the mentally ill to be able to live in group homes or by themselves successfully. A range of services is available to make sure this happens. These services allow the mentally ill to take control of their lives and to feel as if, and make them, independent. Services such as Domestic Assistance or Home Help provided by Home Care Service of NSW, provide assistance with housework and chores, including cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing and ironing, as well as shopping and bill paying, and monitoring medication. The Attendant Care Program and the HACC are examples of residential assistance services. These residential and community services are very broad and are many in number. The assistance that these residential services provide is necessary for mentally ill people to live normal lives. With de-institutionalisation, the mentally ill must be able to live and interact in society and these services allow them do to that successfully. .
