The triumph of Vimy Ridge was an immense accomplishment for Canada's military and Canada as a nation. In early April of 1917 30,000 Canadian soldiers moved toward the front line of Vimy Ridge. In 1914 the Germans invaded Vimy Ridge and took possession of the strategic ridge located in northeastern France. The British and the French attempted to conquer Vimy Ridge, but they failed their attempt to overtake the Ridge. In 1917 the Canadians replaced the British and the French to take control of Vimy Ridge. Within days of moving to the front line the Canadian military gained complete control of Vimy and won the battle victoriously. The victory of Vimy Ridge made Canada's citizens extremely proud to be Canadian. The battle of Vimy Ridge was the first time Canada faught together independently. Canada did not require Britain to fight with us in order to capture Vimy Ridge. Canada received an extensive amount of world recognition and a seat in the League of Nations. The League of Nations had accepted Canada as a more dominating country, although still partly dominated by Britain. Canadians had seized ground of great military importance and the world had recognized Canada's great power as a country. The Battle of Vimy Ridge resulted in Canada earning a great feeling of pride, independence and recognition. The director does effectively modernize the original story. He incorporates the way they used to talk and the modernization of today very well. The director also does neat things like call the guns swords and the bigger guns longswords. It is also effective because it appeals to all ages (older people because of the language and younger people because of the modernization). .
