Should Women Enter the Militar

William Gregor, Lieutenant commander, United States Army (Retired), a military science professor at the University of Michigan stated to the Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed forces that "the average 20- to 30-year-old woman has the same aerobic capacity as a 50-year-old man"(Reed 2). The public doesn't realize the disadvantages of this limitation. Moreover, women are pushed to the limit and taken advantage of in many ways. Women should not go into the military because they cannot perform tasks requiring strength, they are not able to work in a variety of fields, and they must endure sexual harassment. .
Women are not able to perform tasks requiring strength as well as they should be able to do in the military. They cannot lift and carry a number of things, which would interfere with the productiveness of the regimen. For example, they may have trouble changing tires on trucks, loading cargo into the trucks, or pulling themselves along a rope suspended above a safety net (Aspy 140). In addition, they may also have trouble carrying their wounded, fellow soldiers to a safe shelter (Stanley 4). This may become unsafe during a time of battle when they are trying to carry a wounded soldier to shelter. Performing certain tasks quickly may also become a problem, and it may endanger the lives of other fellow soldiers. Women could struggle with loading heavy shells into their weapons (Stanley 4). This could result in a wounded, or even dead, soldier. Catherine Aspy, a Harvard graduate who joined the Army after graduation, stated that " in final tests on two-mile runs, the average woman took 18 minutes, the average man about 14"(140). Women also could not perform as well as men. A United States Navy study of upper-torso strength in 38 men and women found that the women carried about half the lifting power of the men (Aspy 142). It is also reported that the average female Army recruit is 4.
