Shakespeare is the most popular author of plays in the world. Schools from all use his plays as studies of work. Shakespeare uses many types of literary device to make his plays better and more interesting. One of the most obvious is blood but no one realized that sleep is also a very important part of the play. In Macbeth, William Shakespeare uses sleep to symbolize the mental chaos experienced by the important characters in the play. In my opinion, I think Shakespeare best describe sleep is when Macbeth killed Duncan when Duncan was sleeping, Lady Macbeth sleepwalking.
"Sleep No More! Macbeth Does Murder Sleep" That is what Macbeth said after Macbeth killed Duncan. The quote explains that never again wills Macbeth, or his wife any rest, and from time to time throughout the play they will comment on their weariness and lack of refreshing sleep. I think Shakespeare did a very good job in using sleep in this part because Shakespeare could've said that Macbeth is a brave men that killing a person is nothing wrong but instead Shakespeare used to sleep to emphasize that Macbeth scared and guilty about killing Duncan and the guilt will hunt him every time he sleep.
In my opinion, I think Shakespeare used Sleep the best way was at Act Scene 2 when Lady Macbeh Sleep walks. Like Macbeth, she is guilty about killing Duncan but unlike Macbeth she was very strong when she told Macbeth about killing Duncan. For example quote: Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts! Unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty; make thick my blood" From this quote this proves that she very strong about killing Duncan and willing to give up everything even her body to get Macbeth King so that she can get power. I think Shakespeare did a god job in using sleep here because Shakespeare could've made her drink beer like many people do when they are sad and don't know what to do with their lives but instead he used sleep walking and made her replay the Murder.
