As the dust and dirt accumulate on a dress shoe, the leather begins to deteriorate. The leather can be restored in many ways. One way is by shinning and polishing the shoe. This can be performed by a series of simple steps with the correct tools. .
The supplies needed for this procedure are quite simple: the correct shoe polish, a damp towel, a shining brush and cloth, liquid leather restorer, and a sponge applicator for the polish. All of the suplies may be found in a local drug store. .
First, the shoe must be completely wiped down of the dust or dirt particles. Then, one must apply a dime sized amount of polish on the sponge applicator. Once the polish has absorbed into the sponge applicator, apply the polish all over the leather of the shoe. After the shoe has a semi-thick coat of polish on it, the shoe is buffed with the shining brush. For two minutes, one must rotate the brush in a circular motion across the leather. Once this is completed, the shoe must be brushed again for two minutes except in a back-and-forth motion. At this point, the shoe should have a dull and faded shine. The shoe then must be treated with a liquid leather restorer within one minute after the shoe has been brushed. This maintains the color of the polish on the shoe. Finally, the shoe must be buffed with the shining cloth. To get the greatest shine possible, one must use the cloth in a side to side motion across the shoe. The faster one moves the shining cloth across the leather of shoe, the more friction is caused; thus, creating a brighter shine. .
The dust and dirt that was previously imprinted on the shoe has been removed, and the formerly scraped and ragged leather has been restored to its original state. Shining and polishing a shoe is the easiest and most effective way to bring back the color and shine of a shoe. .
