college pressure

What about all of my other priorities and commitments that I have at college? What about soccer, work, community service, my sorority? The ones that both of you force upon me and that I enjoy? School is important but so is involvement in activities outside of the classroom. You as parents have the biggest influence on what I do. I feel that the biggest conflict between you and I is that in the past, if you attended college, you were already looked up to because it was not expected unlike society today. Today, I am expected to attend college, along with working several hours, excel in soccer, and give up my time to my sorority. On top of this, I must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 to both continue to play soccer and maintain my scholarship. I do not think that this was expected on top of attending college in the past. Instead of looking at failing negatively, look at failing as a part of success. Learning comes from failing and that is what I am attending college for, to learn. As I walk across North campus everyday to the department of Education, I often wonder if I should be walking down Center Street where Kamm hall, the business department is. I ask myself if I am trying to fulfill what I want to do or meet expectations from you. Do I take those business classes to please you? Am I considering switching my major from Education to business because I want to or because it is a profession of high prestige? I feel that you have given me this opportunity to attend college, so I must fill your expectations over mine. I feel I need to take courses such as Business and Marketing that are undesirable to me, but would please you as parents. This is a lot of pressure on a nineteen year- old girl who knows what I want but also know what you as parents want. I look back when I was attending ** High School, taking honors and Advanced Placement classes my Junior and senior year in high school.
