Reparations

 

            Descendants of American Slaves have the Right to Governmental Reparations.
             For those who don't know, reparation is the act of repaying for an unnecessary act or wrongdoing. The conflict for reparations first emerged at the conclusion of the Civil War, when President Andrew Johnson reneged on Union Army Gen. William T. Sherman's promise that freed slaves would receive 40 acres and a mule. The reparations battle was never under the microscopic eye of society until recently. Many people underestimate the value it holds on many lives and families. By giving reparations to the families of slaves, the government stands to gain a stronger relationship and unity within its boundaries. .
             There are a few references from the Constitution of the United States of America that don't make direct references to the idea of slavery with reparations but I would like to point them out. .
             "Article [VIII.] .
             Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
             Article XIII. .
             Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
             Article XIV. .
             Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
             Article XV. .
             Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude"(Constitutional Amendments).
