Critical Thinking Case Study: Let It Pour.
This case study has brought many issues to the forefront which happens to many businesses today. Chris Smith, a new, bright, and energetic graduate of the University of Phoenix, is starting a new position at Faith Community Hospital as the executive assistant to the chief executive officer (CEO). Chris appears to have an open mind and an enormous attitude for success. An attribute most CEOs would want in a new staff member.
Faith Community Hospital mission statement in the UOP Material (2003) "With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values." (par. 14) This mission statement appears to have something missing. It provides a foundation to promote the well-being of people and the community they serve as a whole company, but in fairness to the individual divisions within the business, it lacks goals. The mission statement does not share the same core values as the broad of directors or as with the CEOs administrative assistant. It is important to point out the mission statements is great when you are looking to keep focus of the total picture of your business. However, if your mission statement does not meet the need of your stakeholders and members of your staff, then what is the sense of having one?.
After meeting with his CEO, Chris has his plate bursting. We know Pat is looking forward to using Chris's Management, Public Speaking, Organization Behavior, Ethics and best of all his Critical Thinking skills.
One of the first things that could be done is to look into the backgrounds of the members of the board of directors. It is important to know the diversity of each member. Chris can use their backgrounds and develop a map to describe Faith Community Hospital's vision, values and interest by taking steps to achieve its desire goals.
