             Dick Smith opened a car radio installation business in 1968 which later called "Dick Smith Car Radios". Dick started with $600; he rented a cheap shop at an awful, quiet shopping centre called the big bear located at Sydney suburb of neutral bay. Dick couldn't afford any form of advertising so all he did was stuck a sign on his old car said "DICK SMITH CAR RADIOS AT THE BIG BEAR" and parked it in different spots around the city. In the first year of Dick Smith's operation, he made more money than the prime minister of Australia. .
            
             • Dick Smith Electronics.
             The car radio business was booming therefore in 1972 Dick decided to open another branch selling electronic parts. The electronic parts business had nearly go bankrupted since he discovered that $18,000 worth of stocks had been missing. But Dick felt that he couldn't just close the shops, he wanted to fight for it. Therefore He thought if he worked really hard, he could make it succeed. In fact, he liked it so much, that he eventually closed down the car radio business and concentrated on making the electronic parts business work. This is how the company of Dick Smith Electronics began. .
             By 1980 the company had grown enormously having over 20 stores. He was selling millions of dollars worth of equipment and has developed many new products. During this time Dick Smith decided that he didn't want to expand any further. He said Dick Smith got too big and he didn't like it anymore. Therefore in 1982 he decided to sell it to Woolworths even though at that time, he was making more than $50 million a year.
