I believe that Young Goodman Brown was a dream. In the beginning it was talking about Faith and it goes into some description about he looks, and what she is wearing. It goes on to describe what kind of a path that Young Goodman had been on. He goes on being scared kind of watching his back. Then he meets up with some people that he will be traveling with. They go on and Young Goodman is traveling slower than they want him to be so a man gives him his staff. The story jumps around.
Young Good then goes on tell how his father had never went into the wood and his father before him had never. He was the first to stray from their path. In what we have read so far they have brought some history in to the telling. .
The travelers go on, they see an older woman in the clearing and one of the men is a bit weary on decided to not take the path so not to be asked questions. So far the story has been vague on the details of why he is going. It goes on that they are traveling the wood and they hear hoofs clattering and they hide. There are two men on the horses they are deacons. They are talking about their ministry and how they are going to be late Young Goodman sinks to the ground he looks up at the sky wondering if there is really a heaven. He has a heavy sickness on his heart. He is worried. The sky is changing color. He is scared. In life things change fast but not in the way it is happening to him is worried if there is a heaven or not and the sky turns black. Then all of these weird thing start going on. The road grew wilder and drearier, and more faintly traced, and vanished at length, leaving him in the heart of the dark wilderness, still rushing onward, with the instinct that guides mortal man to evil. The whole forest was peopled with frightful sounds; the creaking of the trees, the howling of wild beasts, and the yell of Indians; while, sometimes the wind tolled like a distant church-bell, and sometimes gave a broad roar around the traveler, as if all Nature were laughing him to scorn.
