             7.89 KJ/g Cashews 11-13 KJ/g 1.52 KJ/g.
Discussion of results: We conducted this experiment to find out which foods had the most energy in them. We did this by placing the food under a pop can full of chilled water (50ml for non-fatty foods and 100ml for fatty foods). We then weighed the food and the holder and the pop can (we did this for every food), then we took the starting temperature of the water inside of the pop can. After all of these things were calculated, we lit the food on fire with a match and splint. Then we measured the amount of temperature change in the water, and then we were able to tell how much energy is in the food by measuring the calories let out by the heat energy while the food was burning. By doing all of this we were able to tell what types of foods contained the most energy in them and were able to make our diet more efficient. My hypothesis was that the peanuts would have the most energy in them. Though in our class experiment the peanuts did have the most energy at 9.80, but my individual group did not have a part in this average because we conducted the experiment with cashews, not peanuts. My hypothesis was supported by the data, even though the peanuts did not meet the control. The control stated that peanuts had 11-12 KJ/g and our average class results showed that peanuts had 9.80 KJ/g. Therefore the results showed that the food with the most fat content in it contained the most energy.
I think in the process of this lab I have learned a lot about energy stored inside of different foods and had a lot of fun. For further study over this experiment I would have to say it was a good lab. But in my opinion it would have been more interesting if each student took one of their favorite snack foods and find the amount of energy in their food for one of their tests. But of course to have everybody on the same page we would still have the whole class do the experiment with the same foods except for the one test which would include a food their choice.
