She went as far as going against her belief that the $10,000 should not go towards the liquor store. She ended up giving him this money to boost his "manly pride." Although she was going against her values, she is proud in her family and keeps her faith in them. .
             Many times Mama would let alot of little things slide, like when Benetha's "intellectual pride" gets in the way of her respect for her mother. Occassionally, the mud can be a little too slippery. This is shown in the above clip. Beneatha starts talking about she believes there is no such thing as God and that is where Mama's old-fashioned morals slide in, and the mud is thrown right into Beneatha's face. It shows Mama's pride in her belief in God and how no one in her house will dissrespect that.
             Looking at this family, you might wonder how so many contrasting characters might be able to stand each other much less live together. Well, all their prides come together to form their strongest bond, that of "cultural and ethnic pride". Mama has fought for this all her life, and so has Walter and Beneatha, although not to the same degree. These characters show their strong and proud attitudes about who they are to Mr. Lindner. Mr. Lindner, the head of the Welcoming Committee, is trying to buy the Younger family off so they will stay away from his white neighborhood where Mama bought a house.
             In this clip, Mama reminds Walter Lee that he needs to stand up for who he is. Although Walter needs this little reminder, he actually does the right thing and stands up for what he believes in. Even Beneatha shows her belief in Walter by remaining quiet and not demeaning his manhood. .
             Analysis: This is a great example of the whole family pulling together and being PROUD of who they are. .
             Near the start of the play, the family awakens and gets ready for the day's work. Travis, the son of Ruth and Walter Lee Younger needs 50 cents to pay for something at school.
