Someone can do a lot of things on the computer today. You can serf the internet, download music, and write e-mails. Just think what the leaders of the world could have done with a computer in their day. If President Hoover had a Dell in his day with access to the internet he would have been able to talk with the White House Cabinet through e-mails or video conferencing. This would allow them to get down to business faster wherever they where at in the world and done faster. Hoover could have also given the computer to his scientists to come up with the H-Bomb faster. If Hoover would have had a computer in his office he would have been able to track what was going on in the war and would have come to a decision faster in dropping the H-Bomb on Japan which ended World War II. I don't think things would have changed that much if Hoover had a computer. He still would have dropped bombs over Japan and things would be like they are today. .
Computers can be used in the wrong way too. Adolf Hitler would have used a computer against the Allies in the war. He could have used the computer to get onto the internet and get information on how to make more destructive guns, bombs, and other weapons to use in the war. Another thing that his computer is good for would be tracking Allied ships, submarines, or war trucks. The world as we know it would be considerably different because Hitler could have invented a better gun or high powered bombs that would have won Germany the war and life and the world would be completely different. You never know what some people are capable of doing when they get their hands on the wrong technology or equipment. Computers did give the Germans and advantage in WW II. They had the enigma machine which coded coordinates that U-Boats were traveling. The US almost lost the war because the U-Boats were sinking US battle ships all over the Atlantic Ocean. This goes to show you how big computers are in the world then and today.
