Ruth McBride shows great perseverance throughout The Color of Water.
to grow up under a very demanding and difficult Jewish father. He would make her wake .
up early and perform various tasks throughout their shop, and she did not seem to .
complain about it all much. She grew up and became widowed and was forced to raise .
twelve mixed children on her own. She seemed to give off an amazingly positive attitude .
and was very loving and had an amazing faith in God.
I believe that Ruth McBride's faith in God's love was very inspiring. There were .
many times when she and her children did not have much to eat. She would go about .
providing for her children. There were also many times when her children would be .
teased or bullied at school and she would tell them not to pay attention to the bullies, and .
to go about their day. .
Ruth McBride's faith that God had everything in control also made her more .
relaxed in hectic situations. She seemed not to want anything that was new or real nice. .
She seemed content with what she possessed. She showed this by not wanting to learn .
how to drive her husband's old car. She was content with just riding her bicycle around .
the neighborhood. She also did not care what people in her neighborhood thought of her .
or what they thought of her children. She did not let her children think there was anything .
different with them, or when people would be staring at the family she would just brush it .
off.
By Ruth McBride displaying so much faith in God's love and guidance, her .
children turned out to be great adults when they grew up. They were all very successful .
and had families of their own. Ruth McBride was always in charge because she left her .
life up to God and put her total faith in Him.
