             It was a shame, that new born baby came prematurely and died in the ICU. The death of international expansion came soon because of petty differences in culture. People saw the basketball as a game that was ingrained in American culture. Basketball was viewed as a great career opportunity and a chance for a better life for those who were gifted in athletics. The rest of the world looked at basketball as just a fun game. After World War II, American basketball stars emerged and the National Basketball Association was planted in the fertile soil of the United States. .
             The NBA started on June 6, 1946, as a man by the name of Maurice Podoloff was president of the league. Then the league was named the Basketball Association of America (BAA). Seventeen teams joined this league, including the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics. Soon after joining six of those teams left the league because they faced financial difficulties. At the end of the first season Philadelphia had won the first championship. The league was still troubled with a lack of finances. At the same time another league, the National Basketball League (NBL), was facing financial problems too. The NBL filed for bankruptcy in 1949 and on August 3, the BAA picked up the six teams that were left from the NBL. After that the league adopted the name the National Basketball Association (NBA). .
             The first ever star of the NBA was named George Mikan and stood at 6'10". He was the leagues superstar of the 1950's and made 7 thousand dollars a year. He played for the Minneapolis Lakers for nine years and led them to 9 championships. He played in the All-NBA First Team six times in a row. .
             As the years rolled by the rules of the game started to change. The NBA draft came into affect to give teams the opportunity to get the first picks at new players. The teams who did poorly throughout the season got the first picks in the draft. In 1954 a man by the name of Danny Biasone, came up with the idea of the 24-second shot clock rule.
