Hamlet and his father had a very strange relationship within the play. His father being a ghost really made it hard for the audience to actually get to know his father well. You never get to see how much of a father son relationship they had until the ghost appears in Act 1 Scene 1 line forty- one. "In the same figure like the king is dead-, (1.1.41) Barnardo says this when he sees the ghost of Hamlets father. His father as a ghost caused Hamlet to change as a person in the play and this is very noticeable after the first appearance of the ghost.
To realize how the relationship actually changes and effects Hamlet, a description of how the ghost came about and is necessary. The ghost appeared in the first Act of the play and didn't see Hamlet at first. A symbol of how the ghost wanted people to know that he was back for good. " Such was the very armor he had on he was ambitious Norway combated-, (1.1.60-61). Horatio tells a story about how king hamlet was a very powerful king and was always there for a purpose. This proves when King Hamlet comes back as a ghost with armor on he is there for a purpose and want to make sure he revenges all the evil effected him. People don't know what to make of the ghost at first and what it really is. They think that it is ghost that is why they throw a spear at. All of these things happen before Hamlet actually finds out about the ghost.
When Hamlet is about to find out about the Ghost Horatio is standing there about to tell him and Hamlet sees His father. "My father! "Methinks I see my father-, (1.2.184) Hamlet goes on and chases the Ghost to talk to him and find out why he has come back to visit him. During the time that they both are talking Hamlet finally figure out what happen to his father and all his thought where proven to be truth. The ghost told hamlet, -Mark me- (1.5.2), which meant to hamlet that he should listen to him and make sure that he looks him in the eye when he is talking to his father the Ghost.
