            French Classicism, as reviled in "the return of Martin Guerre" and .
             Moliere's The Misanthrope, showed how French Classicism stressed order, .
             balance, and simplicity in life in addition to reason, logic and analysis in seeking .
             that is true and Æ'ngood. There where two different classes of human beings in the .
             French Classical Age. The Aristocrats, (high class) and the Peasants, (low class). .
             In the 17th century, Peasants were usually looked down on as the lower orders. .
             They wore that insignia because of there social status among higher class or Court .
             of the days. Peasants, where a poor class of people made up of small farmers, .
             tenants, sharecroppers formed the main labor force of the land. Being a peasant .
             was not an easy life. A typical 17th Century Peasant family lived in small cottage .
             with dirt floors and only one bath those that had even this much where considered .
             well to do Peasants because they had jobs and could provide some of .
             what a typical Peasant family would need to survive. .
             Although some people of the classical age had it better than others they still .
             had to do things like pay taxes, and who better to pay taxes to than King Louis .
             XIV. Villagers had much respect for the King in which they thought God gave .
             him special powers to serve his people. The Sun King, King Louis XIV, became a .
             model and the despair of other less rich and powerful princes who accepted his .
             theory of absolute monarch. His great endeavor was to make himself supreme in .
             Europe and had a passion for fame. Louis encouraged the growing of culture. .
             Louis XIV brought peace, and was a patron of the arts. .
             One could find that many conflicts and confusion arose between love, .
             Marriage, passion, and reason. Characters like, Bertrande de Rols, the "new" .
             Martin Guerre, and Alceste of the Misanthrope, have shown us their flaws and .
             strengths alike. Bertrande de Rols, in the return of Martin Guerre, seemed to have .
             a concern for her reputation as a woman.
