The Giver

" Jonas, by then would be on his own, making his journey "Elsewhere" (161).
I think that "Elsewhere" is in another community away from theirs. I believe that it is a place where people go that feel that they do not belong in the community that they live in. It's for the people that know that there is something out there for them. They describe "Elsewhere" on page forty- three where Jonas talks about new children being sent "Elsewhere" and never returning to the community" It seems almost as an exile or banishment to me. On page forty- eight it is described as being a place that you are able to go to if you feel that you don't fit in your community. Again on page 115, Jonas questions "Elsewhere" wondering if someone was there waiting for the twin after being released and his father says yes there would be. This page also has Lily wondering if there is two of everyone. Wondering if they named the one twin Jonathon in their community and the other twin in "Elsewhere" was also named Jonathon. At the very end of the book, you assume that Jonas has made it to "Elsewhere" because he hears music singing, love, warmth, and lights. This quote made me think, where is "Elsewhere"? What is "Elsewhere"? My connection was the very end when he hears the music and singing it reminds me of the memories that he was given by the give. THIS IS THE "ELSEWHERE".
