Rights of the Second Amendment

Back when the settlers first came to America, their way of life was centered around the use of guns. The settlers had to fend off the Native Americans from stealing there possessions and raiding their homes. Hunting was another crucial reason the settlers needed their guns . They needed the animals that were killed by using guns to feed their families. When the settlers fought to gain freedom from England and France, they were expected to have their own guns to use in battle.(Cottrol,p.65) That is why the Second Amendment was made, to protect their families, the necessities of hunting, and their freedom. .
These three necessities are the reasons we need to withhold our right to own firearms. We may not have painted warriors running through our backyards, but a person braking into your home and stealing your possessions is someone you could compare to a Native American back in the 1600's. Hunting is not used in most cases to keep your family alive, but a sport or career for some people and if their right to posses firearms is taken away, then so is the joy of hunting. Freedom is something that most Americans have taken for granted and the reason we have freedom today is because people respected the Amendments and gave the people the rights they deserve.
The only issue that I do disagree with is the right to own handguns. I think the number of handgun owners needs to be limited, which it is obvious they aren't when statistics show there are .

over 235 million guns in private hands in the United States alone.(Jost,p.1107) A study done by a police foundation showed that 53 percent of long guns are kept unlocked and 57 percent of handguns are kept unlocked and an additional 55 percent of all handguns kept unlocked are loaded. Sometimes I think that guns should not be blamed for an increase in crime. People's perception on what is the smart and safe thing to do is the problem.
