After Iago's revenge was carried out; Othello became miserable, as Iago had wanted. This is the only tragedy in which it really seems that the villain has won. Iago is left alive while Desdemona and Othello are dead. However, Othello did finally at the end take charge of his life by controlling his own death. He also took responsibility for his weaknesses and realized it was partly his faults and foolishness that caused the death of Desdemona. Although this occurs and helps the audience sympathize with Othello, it is still terrible to see that Iago maintains control by not speaking to tell Othello why he did what he did. Demand me nothing. What you know, you know. From this time forth I never will speak a word? (5:2 311-312). .
King Lear involves many different families but the one that causes the most harm is Gloucester and his two sons, Edgar and Edmund. Edmund being a bastard son has had to live without his father until the beginning of the play. This is when Gloucester introduces Edmund into his society. He does not approve of Edmund and resents his presence. Edmund sees and feels the resentment of his father and this is why he plots his revenge. He uses Gloucester's other, legitimate son, Edgar to help exact his revenge. Edmund tells Gloucester that Edgar is trying to kill him, and tells Edgar that Gloucester feels he is trying to kill him and for Edgar to get out of town. Gloucester then relies and depends on Edmund who only betrays him further in the play, which leaves Gloucester blind. Edmund in the beginning of the play had some sympathy from the audience but as the play progressed, he became a despicable character. Gloucester should not have trusted Edmund without more proof than just a letter to prove that Edgar was indeed trying to kill him. From the beginning of the play Gloucester made it obvious that he did not care much about either of his sons, legitimate or not,But I have a son, sir, by order of law, some year elder than this, who yet is no dearer in my account? (1:1, 19-21).
