heaven and hell

During the course you just completed we discussed the good and the evil, the heaven and hell. How do you see heaven and hell? Do not just give me some answer from some book; tell me what hell is and where it is. Tell me what it means and HOW is varies from life around you. Be serious about this answer and look at reality.
This is probably the hardest question for me. It would be easy to say for the sake of the test that I believe as the Mormons do or as the Christians do. However, we had that little conversation the other day and you know that I do not believe as they do. Right now, let's just say that I am floating. I don't have any strong beliefs at this time.
I do not know what, where or even if there is a Heaven and a Hell. I do know that there is a source, an entity all knowing and divine, but who, what and where this source is far beyond my knowledge. I just know that there is something greater than myself that is out there. I have to say that at times it has felt that there has been someone or something looking over my shoulder and watching out for me. Who or what it was I do not know, but I do know that it was there. .
I have a hard time believing in a cut and dry Heaven and Hell. The bible speaks of fire and brimstone; I personally just can't picture it that way. You hear people preaching of burning or rotting in hell, I feel that it just makes for a colorful sermon. I feel that if there is a God that he would far surpass something such as burning someone in hell. I think that if there really is a Hell that it would be far worse than any human mind could ever comprehend. Where it would be; I have no idea. However, if God is as forgiving, and loves each and every one of us equally as I have been taught; why would he want to see any of us in pain or suffering? Wouldn't he just forgive us, and then we all live happily ever after? .
I grew up with a different teaching of Heaven than most.
