Parkinson's Online

The information on this link was only updated as recently as 1999 and since the link is also maintained by the APDA, it questions the validity of the rest of the website. The site also offers grants to doctors or activists who research or cause interest in the disease. This information can be found under a link entitled fellowships and grants which is maintained quite frequently since it lists current awards and deadlines for grant applications. Although this site doesn't give a lot of detail about what Parkinson's is, it does offer a lot of support and help that can aid in the betterment of those who suffer from PD (APDA).
The second site is established by the National Parkinson Foundation, a group that provides therapeutic care to people with physical and speech problems. This site is obviously updated frequently since it lists current events and has discussion forums. This site is not as encompassing as the previous site, but it holds its own when it comes to the content. On the main page of the web site there is a section labeled,What's New.? This section contains highly detailed articles about what happens to a person who has PD, breakthroughs in research, common side effects and their causes, as well as experimental treatments. These articles can be trusted with accuracy because they are taken from scientific journals written by highly decorated scientists. This site also features a section calledHelpful Tests and Survey.? This is a questionnaire containing different tests and surveys that can be taken to determine whether or not an individual has the symptoms of PD. Nowhere to be found, though, is any kind of information on who made the survey or where it came from, which leads you to believe that it is supported by the NPF. The NPF, though, has no visible ties with accredited medical institutions or research teams. It is hard to tell if a test like this can be trusted with something as important as diagnosing a disease.
