Celebrities aren't the best role models.
A role model is an outstanding individual who contributes back to life. Why do these people called celebrities would contribute in my life? Very simple, because media makes us see these people as a model we have to follow. The media manipulates our minds to see these people as heroes. Celebrities are in an obvious position to influence others. We see celebrities as our models in fashion, beauty, habits, acquisitions and others. .
Celebrities aren't exactly the best role models. If we idolize positive role models, we decide we want to be like these people. If we choose negative role models, such as persons who exhibit habits that are socially unacceptable and harmful to us, we are only asking for trouble. There are many examples of negative role models that public adore. Some examples for this category are some famous artists such as Jim Morrisson, Kurt Cobain (former Nirvana lead singer) and Janis Joplin. What do these 3 people have in common? They are adored, remembered and considered legends. As much as we might admire these talented people, we cannot use their talents as examples of their morality or good judgment. .
This has been going on for decades, and it must end soon. People watch them and think, "If only I could be like Jim Morrisson". We don't always see what these people true thoughts may be; we only watch them in public. If we only saw what really made some of these people act like they do, maybe we wouldn't be so quick to accept them as our role models. .
Role models should not just be people we like; they should be people that we want to be like. They are not good examples. Drug abuse, alcoholism, and infidelity became part of Jim, Janis and Kurt's life. While we cannot judge these people's moral values, we should keep our celebrities standards to some type of limit. .
Are these the role models of today's youth? The answer is yes. Although positive role models do still exist, young people of today seem to be abandoning them in favor of this new wave of celebrities that are constantly in trouble.
