The wage gap

When researches look at the pay differences they must also look at the work patterns; claims have been made stating that one of the reasons women are paid less is usually because they have fewer years of work experience, work fewer hours a year and are less likely to work a full-time schedule compared to men (GAO). However in this time frame women's education level is to the same level of men, they are more present in male-dominated industries, "men are still paid more regardless of how many years of experience or education they have with a company" (Dusharme).
             2. Even though many women know of the pay gap between men and women they still continue to work in these environment despite the poorer pay because the job that they are offered offer them flexibility in order to manage both the family and job responsibilities.
             3. "The department of labor estimates that in the general workforce women are paid about 24% less than men" (Mateya). The GAO investigated that the gap between men and women in management positions has grown by 21 cents per dollar between 1995 - 2000 (Wage Gap Widens For Managers). On average for ever dollar man a earns a women has made 73 cents in 1998. "At that rate a 25 year old working woman will lose more than $523,000 to unequal pay during her working life" (Keller).
             III. 2nd minor idea.
             A. The pay gap has shown that it's clearly present and is affected in specific target industries.
             1. Women that work in jobs that are traditionally female dominated such as librarians, secretaries, nurses, nurses assistants and so on are generally given less pay than those that attempt to work in male dominated industries.
             2. Because women are usually known to trade off higher paying jobs for one that offers a range of flexibility to be able to juggle work and family responsibilities (GAO p.16) therefore when it comes to management they are also offered lower pay because they have the tendency to be out more sick days because of children, or have to leave for maternity leave at one point in their career and so employers seem to take advantage of that.
