The Book I read for my book report was called "A Spell for Chameleon-; the book was about a man named Bink who lives in a magic country called Xanth. The land has many dangers like Tangle trees and other magical creatures. Bink travels through the world and fights monsters, escapes traps and finally battles an evil magician who is trying to conquer Xanth. The book was written by Piers Anthony and published in October 1977.
In the beginning we find Bink of North Village watching a Chameleon who sees him and changes its form to scare him away, it changes into a basilisk and a salamander, then it is snatched by a bird and killed. Bink takes this as an omen, but can not figure out what it means.
Everyone born in Xanth has a magic talent, some are seemingly pointless and others are very powerful. If you live in Xanth you must show that you have a magic talent by the age of eighteen or be exiled to Mundania (the normal world). The problem with Bink is that he can not figure out what his magic talent is, or if he even has one. He has had a hard life growing up, being the center of teasing and practical jokes. His fiancée can not marry him until he demonstrates a magic talent, so she suggests that he journey to the good magician Humphrey, who has the very powerful talent of information. He can find the answer to almost any question asked to him, but he charges a year of service for his answer. Bink can stay in Xanth until that year is up, but first he has to find him.
The Magician periodically moves his castle around so that he only gets the most needed questions instead of the stupid ones. Bink starts off by heading down the enchanted path that has warding spells associated with it, after traveling south for a few miles he meets a centaur traveling the path. The centaur tells him to leave, but Bink insists that the path is the king's path and anyone is allowed to travel it.
