The Island

The title of my book is The Island by Gary Paulsen. The main character in this book is Wil Neuton. He is a 15-year-old boy who is 6 foot 2. Susan is also an important character in this novel, he meets her when he moves to northern Wisconsin. His dad got an offer to do his job there so his family moves from a middle-sized city Madison, Wisconsin to a little town in northern Wisconsin.
When Wil left Madison he left every thing he knew. When he moved there he went to Sucker Lake and saw a small island and paddled out there on an old minnow boat he found. He soon went there every day. He met a girl named Susan. She went with him on the island to bring him food because he decided to stay and sleep on the island because he wanted to learn about every thing that was on it. He didn't want to leave because he thought he would loose every thing. His parents started to worry about him. His dad tried to talk him into leaving the island because he thought he was doing drugs or that he joined a cult. Wil said he didn't want to leave so his parents went home to call a shrink. .
The next day a lady came to the island, she was a reporter. She interviewed him and made a story in the newspaper. A shrink came the following day and talked to Wil. He discovered that there was nothing wrong with him. All what Wil was doing on the island was writing about things like the animals, his parents, his grandmother, and Susan. He also liked to draw pictures of things he saw on the island. In the morning he would usually meditate. A couple days later he woke up to camera men taping everything he did because they were doing a big story on him. At the end of this novel his dad read the interview that the reporter did on him and he realized what Wil was doing. He didn't think he was crazy any more. He decided that he would spend a night on the island to see what it was like.
I think the theme of this book is the importance of knowing who you are and saving the environment because Wil would never leave trash behind and he never hurt any thing on the island.
