And He expects the same desire for us today, to be totally dedicated to His obedience. The obedience that God expects can not in any way or form be done with human strength; so he promises a work within the heart. In Deuteronomy 30:6, it is said, "The Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul and live." The verse clearly states that total commitment of obedience (29).
Jesus reinforced the commitment of holiness in Mark 12:29-30 as being the "most important commandment." It states, " the most important one," answered Jesus, "is this "Hear O Israel, the lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."" This means to give your entire beings to him and nothing less (29).
But then God put a twist upon the definition of holy and states in Mark 12:31a, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Loving God and loving our neighbors has become the clear standard of how holiness is supposed to look in every believer life. "Holiness is clearly God's will for His followers. It always has been. It still is. It always will be" (30).
For me personally, I agree with Drury's view and definition of holiness. I believe to be holy means to be like Christ. It means to love God with my entire being; with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind and all my strength. For me this is a direct calling and command upon my spiritual walk with Him. It's not a suggestion or advice but a "do" statement in order to become holy.
I find it quite interesting of some the responses and actions of fellow Christians and believers, when asked what does holiness mean in their lives. A majority of them responded by saying, "Being like Christ" or "Serving Him with a all my heart, soul, mind and strength" or purity within my heart.
