Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to never leave a child alone in a vehicle.
Have you ever thought of yourself as a potential murderer? Many of .
you would probably say "no" to this question, but you might be .
unintentionally. Millions of kids are left alone in vehicles everyday by .
potential murders. You may not know it, but vehicles can be very .
deadly to a child. When you leave a child unattended in a vehicle to .
run a few errands, you are subjecting them to possible death; .
therefore making you a potential murder.
II. While in high school, I used to baby-sit two little boys ages 2 and .
4. From that experience, I know how easy it is to want to just let the .
children sit in the car while you run in the store for a minute. This .
seems like a better plan than to waste 5 to 10 more minutes trying to .
get the kids out of their seatbelts and into the store when you only .
plan to pick up one item in the store anyways, but this is a very bad .
idea for the life of the children.
III. There have been thousands of children to die or be injured while left .
unattended in vehicles every year. According to Miriam E. Tucker in .
the Pediatric News journal, "approximately 9,160 children aged 14 .
years or younger were injured and 78 were killed when left .
unattended in or around motor vehicles from July 2000 to June 2001.".
IV. This is a risk for children that everyone should think about, not just .
parents. We all have either little brothers or sisters, cousins, nieces, .
or nephews that require attention while around a motorized vehicle.
V. No child should ever be left alone in a vehicle, because of the many .
potential dangers that vehicles expose to children.
VI. Just a few of the many dangers of vehicles to children include being .
trapped inside vehicles where temperatures can reach deadly levels .
