Clockwork Orange

Clockwork Orange, by Stanley Kubrick, is a film dealing with the issues of free will. This film revolved around a character, Alex, of the utmost evil who was cured from his evil ways. It is then questioned if he was robbed the very thing that makes him a human: his ability to practice free will. Although we are given the illusion of free will, are we actually free? Our society has defined what is considered right and wrong. To be considered socially accepted we must follow those guidelines. In turn, does this affect humans" free will? Do we become as the title suggests, Clockwork Orange?.
For a society to function in this day and age there must be laws and punishment when those laws are broken. With complete free will, there would be absolute mayhem throughout the world. With no laws to break, mankind would be free to hurt and damage as they please. To an extent, we are required to follow laws in order to function and for humankind to even continue to exist.
With that said, do humans still have free will? Alex is clearly robbed of his free choice when he is rehabilitated to be a "good" person. In every day life, we are also somewhat stripped of our free will in order to remain a "good" person in this civilization. We are constantly faced with choices to make throughout each day. Naturally, some of these choices are affected by each person's moral beliefs. Often, a person's moral beliefs are shaped by what is expected from society. .
I do not believe we are given the option of free will. In this world, you can choose to do things that are "wrong", but will eventually face the consequences. Our actions are a result of what we choose to do, but the choice to decide has somewhat been distorted. We are given the illusion of free will by being guaranteed freedom of speech, religion, etc. However, there are clear boundaries that cannot be crossed. .
True free will can never be an option in this world.
